Default Mesmer build against Glacial Griffon

Wow, I can't believe it this. I may have found my match. I've tried tons of different builds against the Glacial Griffon in the Cold As Ice solo quest in Eye of the North. I can't get him down much further than half of its health. Anyone had any success against it?

Haha okay I found a way to beat him. All I really used was Conjure Nightmare and Distortion. I just kept the degen on him, since he has no way to heal. Then I'd just run away after I'd cast and try to lose the aggro. Then I just used Distortion to avoid the spirits' attacks.

I've had some success with it - I used Unnatural Signet to rip all his spirits apart (if it hits a summoned creature, it does double damage and recharges instantly). Once they're out of the picture, a little degen makes him a pushover.

Yeah, I slapped that on the skill bar, but I found it easier to just run out of range from the spirits. I just took damage if I stayed there and used Unnatural Signet 3-4 times to kill them. I tried tons of different builds before it dawned on me just to use degen haha.

Wow, that would've been be an amazing skill to use. Too bad I don't have Nightfall yet.

I used degen but with Great Dwarf Weapon to keep distortion up pretty much all the time. I found killing the spirits was fairly pointless(I tried consume soul initially). Illu Degen works much better.

Definitely. Really all you need is just one or two skills. Conjure Nightmare worked perfectly now that the energy cost was made more reasonable.

Umm, a question....

Great Dwarf Weapon: "Weapon Spell. For 20 seconds, target other ally's weapon strikes for +10...20 damage and has a 20...40% chance to cause knock down."

So does this actually work if you are solo and not raising Minions, if it would even work on Minions, that is?

These are the skills I am considering using...
With my Mesmer as a Me\N.

[skill]conjure phantasm[/skill][skill]conjure nightmare[/skill][skill]distortion[/skill][skill]spiritual pain[/skill]
Sunspear Skills [skill]necrosis[/skill]or[skill]cry of pain[/skill]

I was thinking I might need a run skill to aid with kiting, but I am not sure if it is warranted.

Maybe some sort of energy gain/re-gain...

Illusion 15 - Dom 13 - rest FC
Magekiller Staff

Any suggestions would be appreciated...

i think the intended skill was dwarven stability which lengthens stances, in this case distortion

I am really beginning to hate this quest... nay, I hate it....

I have tried several build suggestions on 3 different chars; Mesmer, Elementalist, and Dervish...

The only build that even comes close is the Rit build with Brutal Weapon and Vampirism... down to about 15%...

I am at my wits end here... I've tried Necro, Ranger, and Warrior secondaries.
I have tried degen, poisons, kiting, rushing right in...

I just don't get it, I guess. It should not be this hard, with so many others already having done it, so I am unsure where I am going wrong here...

Basically, I suck as a soloist and it is clearly a PEBCAK issue... lol

So... any suggestions for morons like me?

EDIT: Would use of goodies and consumables be worth the effort here?

Try crippling anguish, conjure nightmare, distortion, and ether feast thats all i used to kill it. just hit him with CA and CN then kite him back and wand him some and keep reapplying those two hexes as needed. If you get low on health hit him with ether feast. This build works but will probably take around 7 or so minutes to bring him down.

Is that all you used in your skillbar?

I will try Crippling Anguish... THX

Any Thoughts on the inclusion of [skill]pain inverter[/skill], How about energy management, did you have any issue with that?

I'm ashamed to admit that I 55'd it, using IW and my good old longsword, and "You move like a Dwarf" to interrupt Bloodsong and its life steal that was breaking through my Prot Spirit.

Had trouble on this one as well, with my ele I was able to degen with a ranger poison arrow/toxicity secondary build (fav winds, read the wind, longbow). With my derv I went mesmer secondary with conjure nightmare, conjure phantasm, and some health regens when I got in trouble (derv regens). Also used you move like a dwarf to interupt and cripple for escapes.

All I did was kept conjure phantasm, conjure nightmare and etherfeast on him. Oh yeah and my mesmer ran around like a little girl when he started coming and if he got too close it was signet of midnight. Those are all I needed it took awhile to eat through his life but with those two degens it worked like a charm. Just keep running around and away from the spirits.

If he's just sitting there with a degen on not attacking you cause you backed off too far then start wanding his spirits to death to clear out some more running room.

mana shouldn't be a problem at all if you wait till those degens are used right to the end before you reapply. ether feast when needed.

This setup means pretty much max out your illusions & inpiration and then whatever else to fast casting. Don't need alot of casting speed here.

took me 3 tries to down him first two was when I too close to his spirit cluster.
